after installing the latest security upgrades on a win
2000 machine which had happily run with 2 hard drives
previously, the second (D) drive has gone missing and
cannot be accessed by explorer or programs. Explorer gives
the drives present as C E F with D missing.(E and F are
CDs)
However, in the control panel/device manager the drive is
listed and described as 'working properly' and given the
name WDC WD102AA (I think its a western digital Drive).
I have run out of ideas as to how to get the drive back,
can anyone help?

no, the drive simply isn't there in Disk Management, but
it shows up in Device Manager as working properly...!

I tried uninstalling from device manager and it no longer
showed in there.
Rebooted - shows up in device manager but no sign of it in
Disk Management or anywhere else.

Do you see the drive if you boot to Safe Mode? If you haven't already done
so, install Service Pack 4 onto the system and see if the disk is listed in
Disk Management.
