Missing General Tab

I'm not the only user of this system. I found that the
homepage was changed to some rinky-dink search engine and
went to change it back to a portal, but found the General
tab was missing. (Hence couldn't change the homepage.)
Searched the registry for the offending pagename and then
replaced it with the portal I wanted. So that problem is
solved, but I still don't have the general tab. Upgraded
to 6.0 hoping to overwrite that setting whatever it is.
That failed. Any hints would be appreciated. TIA -Al

Thanks for your kind assitance. I had run both adaware
and spybot - so I'm confident that I eliminated the
culprit, but the damage was done.

Your little reg-hack was just the trick. I do appreciate
your help.
