Dear Carl,
Thank you for your update. I am glad that this problem was resolved
successfully.
When you enable the "Disable the General Tab" group policy, the system just
adds the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel\GeneralTab] registry value and sets it to 1. When
you click the "Internet Options" menu item, IE will check whether this
registry value is 1. If it is 1, the General tab will not be displayed.
This is to say, if some third party applications add this registry value
you will experience this issue. It is not required that you modify the
group policy through the user interface.
I hope that the above information can be of assistance.
Best regards,
Laura Zhang

| Laura,
|
| The fix was to follow the regedit instructions. I found
| that KB article 272449, referred to here in another
| thread was the answer. While it talks about
| the 'connectionstab", the General, and program tabs are
| under the same key.
|
| I wonder what changed this, I am not running the Group
| Policy, so it is strange.
|
| Thanks for the prompt reply,
|
| Carl
