A while back a deleted some programmes using the 'add / remove' feature in the control panel and I deleted a file
that it shouldn't have deleted. This means that there are sub folders in the 'My Documenst' folder that are suddenly
missing !

In desperate need of help - thank you !

PS

A friend told me about a programme called Revival and that this programme might be able to solve the problem, however this programme is only for NT.....

I believe it would be very unusual for a program removal to remove a
folder in my documents, most uninstalls don't remove data files. I could be
wrong.

However, to your current problem: Have you checked the trash can?

I take it you are using XP, although you did not say, so you should be
able to use the restore function, picking a date prior to the date you did
the uninstall.

BTW the more you do with your computer (assuming the restore or trash
can idea don't work) the more likely you will not be able to restore the
deleted files.

[Make sure your lines don't exceed 72 to 76 characters.]

1. Restore from backup.
2. Try System Restore.
3. XP is NT (precisely NT5.1).

I did look in the trash can, but the files weren't there, I tried taking ownership (
so that suggestion in another message ) with no result

System restore doens't work either
There is no way that these files can just dissappear from my documents while som
files are still there !

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are now two kinds of deleting of files. The new one uses the
trash can, which is just another folder with a special function. It puts
the files there, they have not really been deleted. A second step is
needed. When you delete the files from the trash can, they are truly
deleted (sort of).

Note: it is possible for some programs or you to bypass the trash can.

Now once they have been truly deleted (sort of) they are still on your
drive, but the table that the computer uses to find files and identify free
space now sees that space as free and now may use it again. So for a while
that file may be restored. To do that takes some special tools, that I
don't believe are part of Windows normal tool set. Generally they are third
party tools. Sorry I don't know what is available for the various flavors
of Windows, but a search for "file restore" might find you some.

Good Luck
