Before editing the registry make sure you have a good backup or restore
point first.

Click Start > Run, type in: regedit and press Enter.
Expand the following key to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

If "NoFolderOptions" is present in the right pane with a DWORD = 1, you can
either delete the entry or change the value of the DWORD to 0.
To change the value double click on NoFolderOptions.
To delete the entry right click on it and click delete.
Close regedit when done.

Really?

I beg to differ on that. Open "My Computer" and select "Tools" and look at
the bottom of the list..
"Folder Options..."

Hi Brian,

i checked the registy.. however, "REG_DWORD" value is already set to "0".

any thoughts? is it possible that this is because of IE7 Beta?

I appreciate your assistance on this whole matter

Thanks

Right click on Policies.
Click Export in the popup menu.
Save it to your desktop as Policy.reg
Click once on Explorer and press Delete.
Close regedit.
Now if you need to replace it all you have to do is double click the.reg
and merge it back into the registry.

Check to see if Folder Options is present in the Tools Menu.
If not reboot and check.

The "NoFolderOptions" policy can be located here as well:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

That's good to know. Explorer isn't present in the hive there in my reg.
What I have is: NonEnum, Ratings and system. Nothing pertaining to
NoFolderOptions.

If you add the registration keys and values then it will work. Most HKCU
policies entries can also be in the HKLM policy location and will affect all
users.

:

Changing the value to 0 will not cause a crash.

Brian, I've got the same problem with no Folder Options, but I've discovered
as I worked your fix that I'm not even allowed to edit the registry even
though my User is listed as computer adminstrator on the computer. It says
"Registry editing has been disabled by your adminstrator." Any thoughts?
Thank you. Brian D.
