Missing Files

I have Windows XP WIth IE 6 SP1 and just recently I have
noticed that in IE some files ( I think that they are
mainly GIF's are
not loading-- I get a blank square and a red x- I did an
IE repair-- cleared cookies and temps--

What can I do to fix this other then do a format? Oh yeah
when I tried to redownload IE I was able to get the set
up file but it won't install because the version on my
computer is newer :(
