Hi and thanks for your time;

I seem to be having some major computer problems, just
recently I noticed that I have lost the (contents) of my
pictures folder, approximately 1000 jpeg's.

As well as that I have somehow lost the contents of two
other folders as well, and in addition to that I have
also lost one or two other folders completely.

I have to start by saying that I did not have any of
these folders open when on occasion I have had a non
responsive program problem, and chose to end task.

For what it may be worth I tried to run two email
programs at the same time and I don't know if this was
the cause of the problem,
I use Outlook all the time and then wanted to run outlook
express as well so when I installed outlook express and
tried to start it the program crashed.
The dialogue box warned me each time that if I chose to
end task I may loose information, but I have to say I
never had any of the things I lost open at that time.

I installed outlook express three times and each time it
did the same thing, it did not respond and crashed.

Like I say I don't know if this has anything to do with
it.

It may also be useful to mention that Norton had caught a
virus called w32.netsky@mm
This virus was quarantined and repaired and I deleted it
as well.
I also do scan's all the time and I seem to be virus free
at this time.

These are the steps I have taken to date;

I know many of the keywords for these lost files and a
search did not show any results at all even though I
unchecked the hide system files in the files and folders
properties.

I have asked for help in Microsoft news groups as well
and have received some well intentioned advise such as I
might try system mechanic from www.iolo.com which I did
and tried their search and recover program to find my
pictures and files,

This program sure does find everything, "I was really
amazed", BUT, it didn't find the files that I have lost
and I am looking for, and I am fairly confident hat I
used the program properly.

I am really at a loss as to what to do, and am really
convinced that this XP program is not very stable at all
but for now I am stuck with it and I am determined to
figure it out.

I am even willing to send the drive to someone so that
they could examine it and find out what is wrong,
The one good thing about all this is the fact that I had
saved all the files on disk except for some of my more
recent photos, which is not the point as I would still
like to be able to recover them as well.

As a footnote, I know that Law enforcement when examining
drives can and do get what ever information is on a
target drive.
I would sure like to get some new suggestions for this
problem and really appreciate any help at all, and again
thank you for your time.

Before you do try "GetDataBack" at
http://www.runtime.org. Be sure to download the correct
version for your operating system, install and run,If it
seems a little complicated don't wory it does NOT change
any files until you tell it to. You can view all files
recovered and pick only the ones you want. It found files
on my drives which were even deleated and FORMATED.The
program will show all files recoverable if you like the
program(send money)and then once you get the activation
key, enter it and you will then be able to start the
recovery. The good part of the program is you can install
and run then if it recovers what you want, send payment
if it doesn't work uninstall and pay nothing. P.S WHY
WOULD YOU WANT OUTLOOK AND EXPRESS? Is it for express
news group features? Good luck
