I have a bunch of Windows XP workstations withg IE6 sp1 and on occassion the
users favorites just disappear and they are left with the default
settings..such as Add a favorite. Has anyone ever seen this before? I don't
even know where to begin looking.

Perhaps the Registry setting is wrong?
(Though I would be suspicious if something is changing it)

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User

Actually we found the problem. There is a local user policy for Favorites
and there is a checkbox to delete the favorites and only use the favorites
provided in the policy. Tis setting was inadvertantly selected during image

If you wouldn't mind sending me more information on this problem. I have
several users whose favorites are coming from winnt\favorites. Previously
they were using favorites from within their profile directory. I have not
found out what caused the problem, but am looking over recently applied
updates.

For use the person maintaining our images "inadvertently" configured the
local workstation policy in regards to IE. There is a setting which forces
the workstation to only use the favorites provided in the policy and to
delete all others.

Hope this helps
