Missing External Hard Drive

I have a Windows 2003 Server. There is a USB hard disk drive connected to
it. I use it for nightly backups.

I have a problem, however. The drive disappears on me! It happens every 2
days or so. The only solution is to turn it off, then back on. Is there a
way to make it not disappear?

Is this server hibernating at any point in the time span?
Does the external hdd have a sufficient power supply and is it attached to
a usb hub in any way?
Whats the model and mfg of the external HDD?

No, the system does not hibernate.

The power supply should be good. It is plugged into a UPS, along with the
server and monitor. Everything else works just fine. It is directly
connected to the USB port on the server.

The mfg is Maxtor, and it is a one touch backup. I will have to check the
exact model and capacity at the office.

I have seen this problem at another client, however. They have a totally
different hard drive. This is very odd. The only connection is that they
both have Dell servers.
