missing emails

Help! I am not receiving all my emails. When I hit send/recieve it may say
receiving 5 emails, but only 1 or 2 show up. I have looked in every folder I
have (junk, deleted, etc.) and they aren't there. Yesterday my husband sent
me an email which I never got. I did a search for his name and the email
showed up then, but I couldn't figure out where it had come from. Then I
tried to forward it to myself and again, I never received it. I know people
are emailing me, but I am not getting their emails.
 
Do you have message rules? Have you looked at those in case there is a rule
or some rules that are relevant? The messages should all go into the inbox
unless you have rules, and if it is the rules, then of course no one here
can see them.
