Well Ray you may find more expert advice on Outlook in one of the Outlook
forums... I know a bit about Outlook Express but it's significantly
different, however if the install formatted any drives then it's more then
just an Outlook problem anyway. If Vista put your old system in a
windows.old folder then Outlook when reinstalled should be able to import
them, as I think Windows mail may be able to do if you know where to look.
OE stores things in folders with a .dbx extension, I think Outlook uses a
..pst extension or something like that so if the outlook folks can point you
in the right direction to search you probably can recover most things.

The hanging thing is most likely a driver problem. Right click on (My)
Computer and look at Properties>Device Manager. Anything odd in there that's
not installed properly or some device that looks alright in there but needs
new drivers is probably the culprit. Video cards are having a rough time but
even things like CD drives are having seizures. I had a problem on 2
machines with Nero CD/DVD software. Often the clue you need can be found
when you can see a pattern, for example if something happens every time you
insert a CD etc.

Most likely you will end up searching the manufacturer's web sites for
drivers so it's helpful if you can pin down the cause a little bit. SIW from
www.gtopala.com can help identify manufacturers of parts.
