I have this problem of "losing" my cd drives. It happens
after a windows update (my theory). In the past I have
associated it with my burning of discs, but now I had my
com looked over and redone. This time, unlike in the
past, the drives have not "just reappeared". I know it
sounds strange, but that's a HP com for ya! Nothing but
trouble since I got it.
Here is what I have tried: Reg edit, device mgr (not
there), reboot, reinstall (xp pro), search and destroy,
norton 2003.
any sug?

Oh, the cd rom will open. is not recognized, and won't
play. The cdr-dvd will not open, and dito to the rest.
In the past neither have opened or worked...or recognized.

help!

Added:

I went to nero and got the latest in "fixes and updates"
I applied all, but no use even after reboot. (my version
was not that old)

I tried tweakui, but it will not run on a something"32"
system.

This may not help you necessarily but i did notice that i lost my CD drives
on my old HP when i had a dual boot configuration (ME/XP) AND when i used
GoBack in conjunction with it. Uninstalled GoBack in ME partition and
voila, CD drives reappeared !!!
