Ethan

hi,

i recently got rid of an advertising program called Gain
or Gator by erasing the files from my C: drive. Now,
whenever I reboot my computer, it says that it is missing
some .dll file. How can I make the program stop trying to
start up whenever i restart my computer?

thanks.

Ethan,

In that alert box, what is the file-name of, and path-name to that .DLL?

Also, do this...

[Start]
| Run |
msconfig
[Enter]

Select /Startup\

Look for any entries that mention "GAIN" or "Gator" or "Claria".

Untick the checkboxes for those entries, reboot.

Then report back with your findings in this thread of this newsgroup.

it says it can't find the c:\toolbar\common name\babyie.dll or something like that

I did the msconfig program and it worked. Thanks so much for your help.

You have spyware on your computer.

Tom Swift

In the future, never "erase" or "delete" files to get rid of something
you do not want. For spyware, if an uninstall is not available,
download a program like "adaware" or "spybot" to do the trick.
