Hello.

I did a windows critical update to service pack 4 on a win
2000 machine tonight. Midway through the installation i was
greeted by a message saying that the file samsrv.dll was
not found. I tried to cancel the procedure.

I'm not sure what exactly happened, but the machine
finished the update. When i rebooted the machine would not
boot. The message: samsrv.dll missing

I feel im screwed here but maybe someone out there can
suggest something.

I am a "regular" user -- not a sysadmin at all.

Thanks in advance.

did you try to do a repair?

In fact the machine won't boot without the file.

I get a message saying that lsass.exe can't locate
samsrv.dll and then the machine restarts, where it loops
back to the same error and restart.

Sincerely,

Sam.
