I don't know if this is the right area. But I have a problem in that a
certain application does not work without this DLL. Have tries the
following:
- wiped the disk and re-installed win2k
- re-installed Office 2K

After this process this DLL was not installed. Have searched the KB and they
suggests that this DLL is installed from Office.

I shall be grateful for any suggestions.

many thanks in advance

Is the file on your pc? (It should be in C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO) If it's there try to register it to see if
things improve. To register the file click the Start button, and then
click Run. In the Run box type this and then click on the OK button:

Regsvr32.exe DAO350.dll

On this PC only DAO360.DLL file exists in the folder C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO. I had to copy from another PC and only then this
VB application worked. The Microsoft KB suggests re-install office, but with
no success.

So, is it fixed?

Sorry John for not being clear.

what I am trying to determine is how does this DLL file get placed in this
folder by what application? The MS KB states it is by Office but when I
uninstalled and re-installed Office this DLL file is not installed.

I really do not want to enter this file manually because I need to write a
build document.

Many thanks

These files are supposed to be backward compatible. The file originates
from the Microsoft Jet package but it is distributed with many
applications. The standard blurb from Microsoft on installing it if it
isn't present is to reinstall the application (like Office) or, when
that doesn't work, to copy the file from the CD to the hard drive and
register the dll with Regsvr32.exe. The alternative to that would be to
get/install the appropriate Jet Engine package, that is more complicated
for average users. These are all part of Direct Access Object (DAO) and
Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), which are MDAC components.

These are jet data access objects.

DAO350 is jet 3.51

DAO360 is jet 4.0

How do I find out what version of ODBC, DAO, Jet, etc I am running?

Try the Component Checker Tool:

How to check for MDAC version
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301202

I should tell you beforehand that the tool is not very intuitive and
user friendly, at least I didn't think it so the last time I used it
some years ago. If it still is the same tool you have to get the
version numbers on different files then you have to cross reference them
with whatever information you can root out on the Microsoft site. A
most frustrating tool to use! Maybe its been improved since I last used it.

I had to install the WGAPlugin. But even after that, it still wants me
to install the plugin.

I've been here before. About a month ago, I got stuck doing Microsoft
Updates. One was for DAO but it kept failing because I didn't have the
expected old version. Microsoft tech support got it straightened out.

You're welcome.
