Hi,

my d drive is gone, i did remove what is said to in the
article and it is missing in the disk management. when i
put a cd in it the light goes on but nothing else. what
else can i do. thank you

Have you tried different cd's ???
If it still doesn't work then it's probably dead.
Take it to a shop if you feel the need.

Try turning off the computer, opening your case,
unplugging the ide cable going into the cd-rom and
plugging it back in tight. It may have somehow come loose

And how does a cable 'come loose'?

Don't laugh - it happens. A cable doesn't have to be literally dangling to
fit the definition of 'come loose.' All that's needed is for the connection
to not be completely tight. Someone with a knowledge a physics can explain
better than I, but I think it's got something to do with all the heating and
cooling going on inside the case.

I rather think it is more of poor quality. My computer uses cable retension
devices, card retension devices and of course gold contacts. If not gold
contacts or poor gold contacts then corrosion is the problem.
