I have a Windows XP Pro SP1 machine connected to a 100 node Active
Directory domain with 2 Windows 2000 server Domain Controllers. One
of the domain controllers is running DHCP and the other is running DNS
and is the GC server. All of our clients are running Win2K Pro SP4
with the exception of a couple people scattered throughout the office
and myself, who are running XP Pro SP1. We have the latest service
packs and updates on both the servers and workstations. The problem
that I'm having is sometimes when I open up the domain (My Network
Places – Entire Network – Microsoft Windows Network – "Domain_Name") I
only see 5 to 10% of the computers that are actually in the domain. I
can go to Start – Run and type \\computer_name, where "computer_name"
is the name of a missing computer, and still browse the computer's
shares. I can also ping them by IP and host name, and I don't have
automatic IP addressing enabled. It also seems that the computers
that do show up are Win2K machines, but not all the Win2K machines
show up, and this may be just coinicendence considering that only
5-10% of the machines on the network are WinXP. Why won't the names
show up in the network?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
