Recently when we bought a new computer we had our old one in the shop. The
new one was preinstalled with Xp and we had added all our programs & devices
to our liking. When the techs transferred the data from the old drive they
ran into some problems and had to redo our new computers XP. Somewhere along
the line they did not reinstall IE right, the desktop shortcut, etc. was
missing. I see the I.E. file in the program files and have tried to install
them but I have not had complete success. I use MSN and I can't for the life
of me find their favorites folder. Currently I am trying to relocate things
(mail, favorites, etc.) so I can switch to a cable service. I have favorites
listed when I am at MSN and yet there does not seem to be a folder on the
computer as there was before, where did it go? It's very tedious to manually
copy the favorites one by one. What's the best way to reinstall I.E. if it
comes down to that. It's not listed in the Add/Remove list. I suppose it's
somewhere in the XP disc, I haven't found a directory list that shows where
it is hidden. Any ideas.

Hi AJP :-)

If by chance the files needed for a repair from the Add/Remove Programs are
not available, you can use the XP startup disk to add the components to the
computer.

Thanks for the information - Got one question though ... I was trying to run
that
sfc /scannow as mentioned in the document about extracting - got a glitch.
The Dos screen opens and disappears fast, I mean FAST. Too fast to read or
do anything further .... how does one slow it down or do I have to use the
command prompt option off of accessories? - AJP

Hmmm......I'm not sure ......I've not heard of any problems like that with
this method before. Let me do some checking and I'll get back here soon.

'k....in checking with a few of the experts, it appears that the window
using that method can be rather abrupt, so it has been suggested to use the
following method and see if it will work better for you.

Courtesy of Teri:

Go to Start>Run and type cmd in the window to open the command prompt.
Then do the sfc /scannow and see if it works better for you.

Hope this helps
