Missing Components - Windows XP Embedded

Hello to all,

I have a little problem.

I'm new in the business of Windows XP Embedded.

I have a machine that was pre-installed with a Windows XP Embedded,
and I want to add a printer but when I tried to do so, I’ve had some
problems.

First, it's a Service Pack 1 installation in the English interface.

Second the problems are like so:

1. When I tried to install a USB printer (HP LaserJet 1150 or Epson Stylus
Color 980), I’ve got a lot of missing files error messages:
file like: uabprint.sys, and some other files that I can't remember right
now, and this happens when he’s trying to install the USB print support,
so the installation could not be completed.

I thought that I could give him the files from the Windows XP Professional
with Service Pack 1 CD,
but it didn't accept it, even so that the right necessary files were on the
i386 folder on the CD.

2. When I tried to install a parallel printer, (HP 4+ LaserJet), everything
looked out fine till the end,
but unfortunately, just seconds before the "Finish" button appear- I’m
getting a message saying:

"Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed.",
and nothing happens eventually- I mean that I couldn't find new printers at
the "Printers and Faxes".

This isn't a Plug & Play device!

3. Just for the record, trying to install parallel printer that is Plug &
Play (HP DeskJet 694C), it's succeed; also installing a network printer-
also gets the job done!

I’m thinking it’s got to be missing components, which the guy before me didn’t
add to the Windows XP Embedded installation.

* I've have another issue with the "Remote Assistance" but it's not so
urgent for the time being.

Thanks very mush on any solution, help & assistance that you can give me.

P.S. Do you know a good site that have a list of all components possible,
and details of the files and registries entry that I’ll need?

Thanks again...

You want component: "USB Printing Support".

I though or dreamed that SP2 help foun its way on MSDN site but I can't find
there anything.
Neverheless download XPe eval version and in product documentation you have
all infos that you seek. (Component dependencies, registry entries afected,
etc.)

IIRC documentation can be installed separately from rest of the package one
of the options on the wizard page.
Have you downloaded whole image and recorded it or just a 500 KB downloader
file?

From TD you can make your whole new XPe image.
Or from help and TD you can see what resources are brought in by "USB
Printing Support" and other component that it rely on.

Slobodan,
I though or dreamed that SP2 help foun its way on MSDN site but I can't find
there anything.

They did not include that content on the web :-(
A while ago I was dissapointed by not finding the component docs there too.

Konstantin,

I know about the online content that it is not in MSDN. But I had a strong
feeling that I saw it in offline MSDN, I can't find it though :-(

I'm just trying to see whether this could help is
Printing issue.

I have faced the same problem, before finishing it gives error could not
install.

Check, whether you have file called NTPrint.inf. If you don't have, try
copying from your repository under C:\Windows\Inf.

Install the printer driver after coopying the file.

Kind Regards,

MP

Slobodan,

Offline MSDN? Keep in mind that XPe and CE help system are now "MSDN based" and will register corresponding collections so you will
see them in the regular MSDN if you happened to install it (with VS, e.g.).

Konstantin
