If you go to Windows Updates in Vista it will list the ten or so updates
that are installed. Then you can double-click on each one in the list to
see the description. Perhaps the update was already installed.
First, try uninstalling the update, rebooting and manually installing the
update, if, of course, the update already says it was installed. The
theory is that it was not installed correctly and a registry key is
keeping you from manually installing.
Second, try uninstalling the update and rebooting and then not installing
the update. The theory is that the update made your situation worse, not
better.
Either way, if I were you I would submit this as a bug report, since they
issued a patch that apparently was not appropriate for your computer.
