Missing Codec

I have an .mpg file which plays perfectly well in Windows
Media Player, but when I try and import it into Movie
Maker I get the following error:

"The file cannot be imported because the codec required to
play the file is not installed on your computer"

Surely the codec is there, or Media Player would not be
able to play it? Does anyone please have any ideas as to
what I might have to do to get around the problem?

Hello there,

What you have come up against will be the licensing issue...the code is
obviously present, but only for playback...movie maker would have tested for
other available functions and was not given access to them or it did not prove
that the necessary licence was present.

Your best solution would be to convert to AVI format and edit that instead.
There is an excellent link from my website...click on GREAT LINKS > IMAGING >
