Missing cd/dvd drive

Hi i recently formated my pc with the vista home premium 32bit disc that came
with the pc.My problem is that after i update the important updates for vista
my cd/dvd drive disapears.The drive worked and was visable in my computer and
device manager before updating but disapears straight after rebooting from
the updates?.I have tried the regedit filters solution but the drive is still
not showing.Any more suggestions would be appreciated.My pc is a dell xps 210
, intel dualcore2 2.13GHz

I had a similar problem on my laptop. Here is a link to a regestry fix.
Had to do this with my wifes computer too
