I have tried the recommendations recently suggested but alas they do not work!

I am totally in the dark as to how to get the drive back!

Please help.

Original post.

I have just turned on my laptop only to discover that my 'd' drive has
dissapeared and I can no longer read a cd or play a dvd. The drive spec is:
Matshita DVD-Rom SR-8176.

When I look in device manager I am getting the following message:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configeration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19).

Can anyone advise how I get it back

My machine is a Packard Bell Easyone Silver 3100 DVD.
O/S XP Prof.

Please try and simplify if the answer is complicated.

Thankyou

If that doesn't do the trick it's a hardware problem needing either cleaning
or replacement. With your symptoms, as described, I'd wager replacement.
