Missing CD burner engine in WMP9

I cut one CD just fine with Windows Media Player 9. However, several days
later (and perhaps a few tweaks later) WMP9 wouldn't work.

I select a playlist, see that Roxio CD Burning is selected, hit the red copy
button, and I get an error message. "The Easy CD Creator burning Engine was
not found on your system. Would you like to download and install it." If I
chose OK, I go to Roxio's website and get no help, even from the chat
function-Roxann. I can go to Program Files> Windows Media Player> Roxio>
and there I find wmburn.exe. If I double click it, it comes up with an
error message, "No playlist selected."

I've spent an entire day in the KnowledgeBase looking for anything that
might help. I've uninstalled WMP9, and reinstalled it. I've even just
installed it without uninstalling it. Nothing seems to work.

I'm at my wit's end and would LOVE some help.

Thanks,

Because it is an honorable family name going back to Germany. It refers to
someone who chops trees.

Just in case you think I'm using an alias, try the Cookeville, TN

Your problem is probably due to a licensing limitation in the Roxio plug-in. You
can either upgrade Roxio (you might have to buy the whole package) or install
the free Nero plug-in for WMP9 (which appears to have been removed from all
download sites on the net).

My comments are based on the following links/comments from MS. You may be better
served by posting your problem to the microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player
newsgroup.

1) From Windows Readme file:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/readme.aspx#roxio
(quote)
Roxio CD Burning and licensed files
Roxio CD Burning may quit unexpectedly when you are copying (burning) licensed
files to a CD and you exceed the copy limit specified in the license for one or
more of the files. You can prevent this problem by downloading the updated CD
Creator engine for Windows Media Player at the Roxio Web site .

Note Roxio CD Burning is only available on computers running Windows 98 Second
Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows 2000.

2) And here's some media advice from MS:

(quote)
How can I use my Nero CD-burning software to burn tracks from the library in the
Player?
Ahead Software, the makers of Nero, have a plug-in available that enables
Windows Media Player 9 Series to burn CDs at full speed, and provides the option
of eliminating the two-second gap between audio tracks while burning. Note that
the plug-in is only supported in Windows Media Player 9 Series; if you try to
use it with any other version of the Player (including Windows Media Player 10),
you may have unexpected results.

The Nero Fast CD-Burning Plug-in is available at no charge from the
WMPlugins.com Web site.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried the WMPlugins.com site, but it appears that the Nero CD burner is no
longer available there.

You're welcome...and thanks for the feedback.

As noted in my previous reply, I had many hits from various Google searches for
the Nero plug-in but all of the links came up as invalid.

My suggestion to post in the windows media newsgroup may yield a response from
someone that is hoarding a copy of this download.

Good luck!

I know it's normally not polite to cross post, but I'll make an exception in
this case.

Again thanks,
Dan

It was removed from WMPlugins.com because it only applies to WMP 9 but people
keep installing it on WMP 10 and WMP 11 systems and it causes hangs and
crashes in those versions of WMP because of how the plugin hooks into the
player.

You can find it here, it's the top one in the list of downloads:

Muh, Hear-o!

Say, Mike, are you married...........uh, forget I said that.

Your web-site did the trick. But how in the world did you find it? I kept
playing around, and playing around on the Nero site and never could get to
the plug-ins without going back to your original link.

BTW, this is not the plug-in that I lost. But it burns CD's for any player,
and that is exactly what I wanted.

Many thanks,
Dan Hacker
