This is a brand new computer with windows 2000
When you log on it gives the message that it cannot find
the file 'c:\buildbu.bat' or one of its components.

1. What does this file do?
2. Where can I download it or get it?
3. Where does it need to be on the system.

Hi, L.

I have no such file, either in my running WinXP Pro or in my archived copy
of Win2K Pro.

The .bat extension indicates that it is a batch file that runs from MS-DOS
or the Command Prompt (DOS emulator) in WinXP or Win2K. I suspect that this
file is not from Microsoft, but from your OEM, and is a part of the OEM's
customization of Windows to fit your computer. The "bu" in the name might
mean "backup" and may be a part of a backup routine.

If you mention the make and model of your computer, someone here should be
able to recognize it and give you more specific help. Most brand new
computers now come with WinXP installed, rather than Win2K.
