From the Control Panel and in Sounds and Audio Devices..

In both the Audio and Voice tab I seem to be missing the Advanced option for sound recording and I'm sure this is preventing me from using my microphone.

Would there be a file to extract from the WinXP disk?

many thanks

Vander

i have had sound problems on my computer which prevented me from having access to microphones and my speakers,i solved this problem with realtek AC97 audio, from techguy website i have just checked my sound controls and everything is there including. the microphone advanced tab. this may solve your problem. make sure you have all the drivers needed. on my system i have the following Audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacy video capture devices, media control devices, realtek Ac97 audio, video codecs. i downloaded realtek ac97 when my sound card was not working and parts missing believed to be media control devices, realtek ac97,audio codecs, after installing realtek ac97 these were reinstalled during realtek installation. this may work for you or it may not i think it is worth trying you have nothing to lose.
