Hi Bobby,
The Administrative Tools shortcuts are stored in the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
If this folder is empty you can repopulate it by creating shortcuts in the folder.
For Windows 2000 Professional the folder contains the following shortcuts:
TARGET NAME
C:\WINNT\system32\Com\comexp.msc Component Services
C:\WINNT\system32\compmgmt.msc Computer Management
C:\WINNT\system32\odbccp32.cpl Data Sources (ODBC).
C:\WINNT\system32\eventvwr.msc Event Viewer
C:\WINNT\system32\secpol.msc Local Security Policy
C:\WINNT\system32\perfmon.msc Performance
C:\WINNT\system32\services.msc Services
C:\WINNT\system32\tlntadmn.exe Telnet Server Administration.
If the folder is not empty then perhaps the registry entry for Common Administrative
Tools is pointing to the incorrect location. To check do the following:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open text box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
- Check the Common Administrative Tools string value and, if necessary, modify the
text in the Value data text box to point to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
And if neither of those suggestions help and you have some idea of what you were
doing around the time the icons disappeared, repost with specifics.
BTW, since there is no indication from your post that this issue has anything to do
with security I more appropriate forum would have been
microsoft.public.win2000.general
