Help! My system administer has gone missing from my user accounts, I can't
load any new software/hardware as I can only log-in as limited user.
Cheers NG

Hi Nick,

Home or Pro?

If Home, restart in Safe mode, you will find the administrator option here.

If Pro, hit ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen to get a logon box
where you can type in "administrator" and the password.

Rick --
I've been using my laptop as Administrator for months and was recently
advised as to how stupid this is (from a security standpoint). So I dutifully
created Admin and User accounts for myself, then was horrified to learn that
I no longer had access to ANY of the work I had done under the master
Administrator login.

That's a very wordy way of saying thanks for your succinct explanation of my
first (and most panic-inducing) problem -- how to access the core Admin
account.

I'm now learning how to export IE favorites, Outlook contacts, and all the
work files that I have on my Admin desktop. Scary (to me).

Thanks for your help.

I am having the same issue. I figured out how to find my administrator
account now, but can't really utilize my files while in safe mode. How do you
export your stuff from your administrator account to the new account???
PLEASE HELP- i'm stranded out here.

Next time make a new post instead of tacking yours onto someone else's.
This will ensure that both you and the Original Poster get the help you
need.

I'm assuming that what you want to do is create a new user account and
copy the Administrator account's settings/data to the new account. If
you only had the Administrator account and one user account, you'll
need to create a third user account (you can make it temporary if you
like) from which to do the copying.

Generally:
1. Create a new user account for yourself from the User Accounts applet
in Control Panel. Call it what you want, as long as it is unique. We'll
call it "pruitt" for now. Log into "pruitt" once.

2. Create new user account for copying purposes. We'll call it "temp" in
this example.

3. Log off and log on to "temp".

4. Now follow the instructions to copy the built-in Administrator data
and settings to "pruitt". Delete "temp" if you like, or leave it there
for other emergencies - it will not take up much room.
