I have recently created a new zone in dns and the 4 subdomain folders are
missing (_msdcs, _sites, _tcp, _udp) I have tried stop/restart netlogon
service reboot domain controller... I cannot figure this out, some work
stations have also said that there is no domain controller on domain when
trying to connect to domain and others have connected to domain just fine.

Was there something I forgot to do during setup of new zone?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello CiPh3rT3kSt,

What kind of OS do you use? 2000 or 2003 or upgraded from 2000 to 2003?

Hello CiPh3rT3kSt,

Is it a single label domain?

Is the Zone name in DNS matching the AD DNS domain name and the Primary DNS
Suffix of the DC?

Are Updates set to at least 'allow' on the zone?

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all froim the server.

Did you run nediag /v toc check for errors? If you have some please post
the complete output here.

Also you can run netdiag /fix

Best regards

It is not a single label domain.

The Zone name is abc.
The AD DNS domain name is alphabeta.local.
The Primary DNS Suffix of the DC is alphabeta.local.

Updates set to "Allow secure updates".

I appreciate your help, any more suggestions will be greatly-greatly
appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello CiPh3rT3kSt,

DNS Zone name, AD DNS domain name and Primary DNS Suffix has to be the same.
In your case DNS zone name is different ABC instead of alphabeta.local.

The forward lookup zone was created by using the wrong name. To re-create
the zone, follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the internal network adapter (and external network adapter
if there is one) point to the server IP for DNS resolution in the TCP/IP
Properties dialog box.
2. In the DNS MMC, right-click the server object, and then click New Zone.
The New Zone Wizard starts. Under Zone Type, click Active Directory Integrated.
On the next page, click Forward Lookup Zone, and then type a domain name
(for example, domain.com).
3. Expand the Forward Lookup Zones folder, right-click the zone, and then
click Properties.
4. On the General tab, make sure that Only secure updates is selected in
the Allow Updates? list (this is the default setting). Click OK, and then
close the DNS MMC.
5. At a command prompt, restart the Netlogon service by using the following
command line: . net stop netlogon
. net start netlogon
. ipconfig /registerdns

Verify that the zone file now has the following subdomains: . _msdcs
. _sites
. _tcp
. _udp
