Minolta Scan Elite II Streaks

Just received my new Scan Elite II. It has the dreaded streak parallel to
the long side of the negative. Once in a while it does not appear, but the
vast majority of the time it is there. It is there in the prescan and in
the final scan. I know this issue has been beat like a dead horse, but most
of the discussion has been from VueScan users. Well, I have confirmed that
problem is there when I use Dimage Scan and is also there with a demo
version of Silverfast Ai. It is there when I use the USB connection and it
is there when I use the Firewire connection. That's enough to convince me
it is the scanner, not the software. Mine's getting packed up to go to New
Jersey where I hope Minolta can fix or replace it with one that works. It's
useless as it is.

Did you make sure you had the latest firmware update?

I went to Minolta's support site and downloaded the latest version of Dimage
Scan as soon as I received the scanner. That was the only downloads listed
on their support site. I have no idea where to look for firmware downloads.
My scanner is showing Dimage Scan Version 1.1.5 and DS Elite2 ROM version
1.20. I don't know if the ROM version is the latest or not.

If you can tell me how to check the latest firmware and where I can download
it, I'll certainly give it a try before I send the scanner off for 4-6
weeks.

Thanks.

You should have got the latest firmware with that download. Minolta,
IIRC, does it as an "all in one".

Consequently, I'#d say send it back as apart from the initial release
time of the scanners (before the upgrades) the only way you';d get
streaks is by using Vuescan.

Thanks Hecate. It is definitely going back since the problem is very
visible and there nearly 100% of the time. I'm including a CD with sample
scans of two negatives, one is old Kodak Safety Film and the other is Kodak
Gold 200. There are two scans of each image. The only difference is that
in the second scan I turned the film strip end for end. When that is done
the line moves to the opposite side of the image, confirming that it is not
a scratch and that the line is fixed relative to the hardware.

Have you tried to calibrate the scanner. I have the Dimage Scan Elite
F-2900 and although it's not hooked up at the moment this issue has
been sited with this scanner as well. In this case by doing a
Ctrl-Shift-I with the software running we were able to do a
calibration.

I don't know if this holds true with you scanner but give it a try.

Let us know if it works.

Mulitple resets (calibrations) do little or nothing. At best, the line
sometimes become fainter.

Also make sure that the scanner isn't influenced by nearby equipment,
e.g. monitor/speakers/phone or other potential sources of
electromagnetic radiation. You could also try reversing the power plug
in the wall-outlet if possible (depends on local situation).
