What are the minimum processor and memory requirements for a Windows 2000 to
run acceptably?
It depends a *lot* on
1.) What you are going to do with the system.
2.) Your personal standards for "run acceptably".
The first systems I put W2K on had 600 MHz P3's with 256 MB of
RAM and the end users were very pleased with how well W2K did for
such tasks as web browsing, e-mail, and using an office suite.
Nowadays, however, someone used to a modern computer would find a
600 MHz P3 to be very frustrating to use. In other words, their
personal standards are higher now than they used to be.
Nowadays, for general home or office use I would suggest at
*least* a 1 GHz or faster Athlon, a 1 GHz P3, or a 1.6 GHz P4,
with at least 256 MB of RAM - and preferably 512. Feel free to
settle for a Duron instead of an Athlon, or a Celeron instead of
a P3 or P4.
