miniDV to laptop--encounter problems

I am new to this so I hope I explain this correctly. I shot a video with a
new Sony DCR-HC21 (miniDV format). Using the Sony supplied software, I
transferred it to my CD drive (via streaming USB) but when I play it the
images look like giant pixels and the sound is not audible. I guess I did
something wrong here. I went to Microsoft site to check if I have MovieMaker
2 and I do.

How can I get the video from my camera to view on the computer without the
problems stated above?

Thanks,
Judi

Bummer. I shot a video for my child's school project and she needs to present
it to the class. Is there any other way to just play the video in the camera
on a VCR or laptop screen.

Also, how can I tell if I have a Firewire card? I'm using a Toshiba
Satellite A25 S279 laptop.

Thanks,
Judi

According to Toshiba's tech site information you DO NOT have a firewire
port.

With a Mini-DV format, USB 2.0 just does not work properly like a firewire
port would.

To convert from the camera to VCR, you should have received a cable with 3
RCA connectors on one end and a mini-phono plug at the other end with the
camera (you may be able to purchase one at an electronics shop (best buy,
radio shack, etc.)) Simply plug in the phono plug to the camera's port
(read the manual for its location) and the yellow connector to the video in
port on the VCR and the red and white connector to the audio in Left and
Right ports on the VCR. Start recording mode on the VCR and playback on the
camera. (I suggest that you switch the write protect tab on the rear edge
of the mini-DV cassette prior to playing it back in the camera, just in case
you mess up and hit the wrong button.)

You could also play the image to a TV or LCD projector if the device has the
three ports (or a single audio port will also work) that I have described
for the VCR.

Good luck.
