minidump error

Our XP driven emachine (T1600) gives us a "recovered from
serious error" message at every boot. The details say it's
related to the C:windows\minidump\mini080403-03.dmp, and
also a file in C:docum called sysdata.xml.

Emachine tells me to either reload from a different day
(has not worked) or I need to reformat the whole thing
(want to avoid that at all costs).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you upgraded any drivers or uninstalled any programs
that may have caused this?

I guy on another newsgroup told me that this worked for
him.

* Deleting all the files in the c:\windows\minidump
subdirectory
* Deleting the whole c:\docume~1\(your
logon)\local~1\temp\werl.tm.dir00\ directory (ie the file
(s)
*and* the directory itself.
* Defragmenting the hard drive (someone else said this
helped; if anyone can explain why, I'd love to know, but
maybe just do it because I did and the problem went away).
* Disabling hibernation (probably nothing to do with the
problem, but I did it anyway)
* Ensuring the (ACPI) power switch on the PC was
configured to do a shutdown (rather than Ask, Standby,
etc).
* Shut down the PC via the power switch (rather than start
menu)
- it still seems to do the same controlled shutdown when
you have a "soft" power switch anyway.

Give that a try,
Luke

Hi,

U sound dejected, Well don't worry u don't have to
reformat the HDD, only thing is to Set the paging file to
No Paging file under the system properties-> advanced-
performance... and then remove the entries from the
c:\windows\minidump and then restart . Then again set the
paging file to System managed size. Restart the computer,
no errors will come up. I am a tech at HP and we get this
issue a lot, so follow this and smile. But if u want other
assistance regarding changing the paging file, tell me.
