millenium edition wont update to ie6

have windows me on my moms computer. shae cant afford xp. when i try to
update from ie 5.5 to ie 6, the update will not go through. anybody have any
help on this problem?

Knowing the error message, if any, might help diagnose this.

But, you may be havng a problem fairly common to WinME users.

This information from Zee has helped many a WinME user...

If you're running WinME, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Have you ever installed IE6 SP1 and then reinstalled WinME without having first uninstalled IE6 SP1?

Same problem for me. My ISP is via AOL 9. I think I have IE5.5 and I
downloaded update to IE6 so DD can have messenger. Download seemed
fine and it asked me to restart computer. When I did this I had the
error message:

updating files
unable to update files from 1% to 2%.

After 2 hours new message of continue to load windows ENTER windows may
not load properly. Windows did load properly but I still don't have
messenger.

I get LOGON TO MESSENGER SERVICE FAILED BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS NOT
RESPONDING. THE SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE OR YOU MAY NOT BE CONNECTED
TO THE INTERNET.
