Friend of mine, running WinXP, has lots of trouble with unsavoury pop-ups
continually appearing while he's on the web. On running msconfig, startup
tab, shows that a prog called 'mikejones.exe' is loading at startup. He
doesn't know what this is, and I've never heard of it, can't find any info
on it.
Is this a virus/trojan/causing popups? can it be safely deleted?

TIA

Sounds rather suspect. Email it to (e-mail address removed) with: SCAN
in the subject line and see what you get back.

You could also upload it to http://sandbox.norman.no/live_4.html to get an
idea of what it does/has done.
