Howdy, y'all; I'm trying to copy files, folders, and settings from an old XP
Pro SP2 box to a new XP Pro SP3 box. The old XP Pro SP2 box has hotfix 896344
installed (migwiz 5.1.2600.2665) to prevent incompatible backup files with
the new SP3 version of migwiz.
However, on the old box, migwiz crashes just after I finish specifying all
of the folders and files to be moved to the new SP3 system. The archive is to
be stored on a network drive, but it also fails if I use a USB removable
flash disk. Even fails in Safe Mode. The error dialog says, "Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the
information you were working on might be lost."
Yeah; inconvenient indeed. I've tried it five differents ways, and always
the same failure. I sent the error dump to Microsoft when prompted to do so.
Setupact.log just shows a series of "Info" messages; nothing peculiar there.
The application event log shows "Faulting application migwiz.exe, version
5.1.2600.2665, faulting module migism.dll, version 5.1.2600.2665, fault
address 0x00032c57."
Anybody seen this before? How to get it to work?
TIA,
André
