Here's the info.

We have one site that is running Windows NT 4.0 PDC with 3 BDC. We have a
mixed environment of Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2k Pro, and XP Pro
client PC's. Currently the domain is just GCOMM.

We are in the process of moving to a new facility and we want to start that
facility on Windows 2k Domain. The problem is that we want the Win2k domain
to be GCOMM.NET, and we will be running in both sites simultaneously for two
weeks with a trust between the two domain/sites.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but the problem I see is that the Windows 9x
machines will not see the domain as GCOMM.NET but just as GCOMM. This may
or may not matter if we do not run a BDC in the new location for the 4.0
domain, but how will this affect the other clients?

Would we be better off setting up the domain as something other than
GCOMM.NET and maybe using the domain renaming tool to rename the domain?

Any help, suggestions, tech articles to read would be helpful.

Thanks

JTT

You can use the gcomm.net for your new domain as all w2k
machines will use that for their login domain. You also
have the back level domain name that your win9x clients
will use. This can be different than gcomm.

I ran into this problem myself and have my w2k machines
logging into the "corp.myco.org" domain and all my back
level clients loggin into the same domain under the
name "copr2k".

It creates havoc with vendors that are not used to this
setup but it should allow you to use both the old and new
domains in a trust relationship.
