Recently migrated from PP Ver 2003 to Ver 2007. A few files were created
in Ver 2003.

These files are now being ammended under Ver 2007.

When saving, a msg continues to be displayed: "Check compatibility when
saving in PP 97-2003" which I leave unchecked.

How do I get rid of this message? Is there a SAVE setting that I missed?

Tks!

From the Help file:

"When you work on a presentation in compatibility mode, where the presentation
is in PowerPoint 97-2003 file format instead of the new Office PowerPoint 2007
file format (.pptx), the Compatibility Checker runs automatically when you save
your presentation."

What the Help file implies but doesn't *say*:

PPT2007 will keep saving the presentation in PPT (old) rather than PPTX (new
2007) format until you force it to change. As long as it's in the old format,
you'll keep seeing that message, as I understand it. Saving to PPTX should
make it go 'way.

If you're only going to use 2007 from now on, that's cool.
If you need to stay compatible with 2003 and the current free Viewer, you may
be better off keeping the file in compatibility mode.

Hi Steve:

I "Hear, read" you. Appreciative. When I attempt to force a SaveAs to
pptx, "it" ends up, opens the viewer. What am I doing wrong??

Upon doing a SaveAs, the then still open file's name changes from .ppt to
..pptx. If I close then open again, the .pptx file, the viewer takes over.
I must be reading wrong, am too impatient or ???

Help Bill!

Tks,

Hello Steve: Appreciate your feedback.

If I first open PP2007, then locate the .pptx file from the recent list, all
is fine. However, if I go to the directory/folder where the file is
located, clicking on the .pptx files opens the viewer, not PP2007. Is this
normal? If so, how do I tell a desktop shortcut to open the .pptx with
PP2007, NOT the viewer??

Tks!!

Hi Wayne

Try fixing up the windows file association:
1. Right click a pptx
2. Select Open with... -> Choose program (even in PPT 2007 is in the list)
3. Select PowerPoint 2007 from this list and tick 'always use the selected
program to open this kind of file'

BTW this can also be done in windows explorer: tools -> folder options ->
file types

Thanks to the both of you. Can't help but wonder why Mr. Gates decided to
go the route I experienced.

He didn't. Even he's not quite that annoying. <g>

Seriously, something apparently went mildly mad among your file associations.
This isn't normal behavior for PPT/Viewer, but it's usually an easy fix.

Got it all working fine now. I was just surprised that PPT's Viewer became
the default, so to speak, and I had to manually tell .pptx to GoTo the
"main" PPT appl. Thank You for vectoring me to the easy fix.
