Hi All

this will be my first time. the NT machines are PDC and
BDC. do you know if there are programs or literature
that i can use to help me with this task?

thansk

Karl,

I take it that you do not know much about Domains and Active Directory.

There are excellent books on Active Directory (found on Amazon) and great
literature and KB at support.microsoft.com - from here you can search on NT
WIN2K migrations.

Note, PDC is the Primary Domain Controller and BDC is the Backup Domain
Controller in an NT environment. When you go over to Win2k, they don't use
the same analagy - both servers become DOMAIN CONTROLLERS or DC's for short.
The both share the same database files so that if you add UserA on DC1
database information will automatically be replicated on DC2.

I will help as much as I can - please let me know at what stage you are at.

Cheers
Paul

.
At this stage i am still in the planning phase. i
figured after testing on a dumb PC that best way to do it
is to upgrade the NT4 mahine to Win2K, then i follow with
the BDC and upgrade it as well. so the Win2k mahine that
was the PDC will be the first DC on the network and
thankfully it keeps its users, and the X-bdc box will
join the domain as a second DC then replicate with the
first DC.

how is that for an initial plan??
