I'm using FP-2000 and understand that it's rapidly approaching MS lifecycle.
I would like to start to migrate from using FP to the MS Visual Web Developer
2008 Express package. I haven't started the learning process yet of the
package but before embarking on any conversions; is there a source that
discribes the migration steps, issues, and requirements?

I know using the FP-2002 extensions has some features that will require some
change.
1. The only one I know of on our site is the hit-counter so that should be a
relatively easy fix.
2. My biggest concern on changing all the code around the "VTI" references.
Any suggestion on info sources or "how to's"?
3. Is there a way to export-import/convert the common headers, CSS, and
navigation bar?
4. Is there other factors/issues to consider?
5. Or is as simple as turning off the extensions on the server and start
using the Web Developer software to maintain/add to the pages?

Thanks
Jim T.

You will have to consider changing every FrontPage component, not only
those that require the extensions. These components include:
Parameters
Navigation bars
Include files
Shared borders
Components that require extensions

None of the above are supported in VWDE

When these have been replaced, the conversion process is:
Back up the web site
Open the web site in MS Visual Web Developer 2008 Express

FYI, FrontPage 2000 has not been supported for several years. FrontPage
2003 is already out of full support, and critical updates end in 2011.

Ron,

Thanks. Sounds like there is no easy way. Maybe easier to start fresh with
the site and pages; cut and paste where possible. I don't know much about CSS
and how much can be done using it to replace some of the items you noted,
guess I'll be going through a learning curve to find out.

I'll keep on using my FP-2000 for awhile.

Thanks again,
Jim T.
