hi friends.
i have problems with my win2k domain. i want to build a
new windows 2000 domain in a new forest parallel to my
existing domain.run active directory migration tool and
transfer user accounts,computer accounts etc.
i am creating a new domain in a different forest on the
same subnet. i installed the ADMT on the target domaini
can see the ping the servers in the existing domain.
when i try to establish the trust relationship from the
new domain in the new forest it is showing me "RPC SERVER
IS UNAVAILBLE".Since i have to make trust work for
ADMT to run properly.

any suggestions kevin

regards
junaid.

RPC Server Unavailable - First logical step is to look at hows your DNS (or
other forms of Name Resolution).
You could create a simple LMHOSTS file and have the Domain Records for the
other domain.

Once you create a lmhosts, also make sure to
a) ensure the LMHOTST doesnt have an extention like .sam to it. It should
only be named lmhosts
b) nbtstat -R and nbtstat -RR
c) ipconfig /flushdns if you setup a secondary zone for the other domain
d) nslookup and see if you can resolve the other domain name
e) ping by FQDN of the domain
