Migrating to 2003 or Longhorn

Hey all,

We are a Windows 2000 (15 Servers in total) network and in the process of
upgrading / migrating to a new domain. No work has been carried out as of yet
we are still documenting our current setup and making sure everything is
working perfectly.

Now my question is this, in your opinion should we be looking towards
rolling out Windows 2003 server or should we really wait at this stage for
longhorn to come out?

I really can't decide, on one hand we could migrate to 2003 where we know
everything is working and supported with all our applications etc but then in
another 2-3 years we will have to migrate to longhorn
Or
Should we simply wait for 6-8 months and develop a much more rounded plan
and and migrate to longhorn where at least we will have the Technology
running for 5 years plus which will save on migrating again and of course we
will have the latest and greatness OS. I know alot of people say you should
wait for SP 1 before rolling out any Server product but our network isn't
overly complicated to begin with. I just don't know if its the geek in me
looking for new toys or if its a valid reason to wait for longhorn.

What do you think?

Regards
Adrian

longhorn will be released in the end of 2007/begin of 2008

W2K's mainstream support has already ended
(http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=7274&x=12&y=10), but it
extended support will go until 2010.

It also depends:
* if you need something from w2k3
* you can wait until longhorn
* how much it costs (work, licenses, etc) to go to w2k3 or longhorn

Dont you mean 2006/begin 2007 ?

We will definatly move one way or another, its still the decision between
2003 and Longhorn though, would it make more sense to wait for 6 months and
go into production with a new product.
It also depends:
* if you need something from w2k3
Not really, well nothing that would gaurantee the sale for instance. Its
more of a we know we need to upgrade type of scenario
* you can wait until longhorn
We probably could all right some servers would be migrated in the mean time
but for the main push I think we could wait if neccesary
* how much it costs (work, licenses, etc) to go to w2k3 or longhorn
Thats also a concern, I dont want to waste money this year on a upgrade if I
will have to upgrade again in two years.. so maybe I should just upgrade
once.. I just dont know

Thanks for comments though
