Migrating Outlook 2003 between PC's

Hello All!

Here is my dilemna, I am helping a retired friend migrate his Outlook 2003
exchange based email to another computer. The home computer is not on his
ex-work domain, and his old computer no longer has access to the ex-work
domain.
His new computer is setup to receive his POP3 based e-mail, but I would like
to be able to import/migrate (whatever) his old e-mail into his home
computer. His old office machine was running on XP Pro OS, his home computer
is runinng on XP Home OS. Both computers have Office 2003 pro installed. I
was able to get the data files, but he has only outlook.ost files on the old
computer, not the .pst files I have read about in the forum. I knoe that the
..ost files are for offline access to his e-mail. Is their a way to convert
..ost to .pst? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

If the PST files are on a domain resource (network drive), and you no longer
have access to that resource, then you simply no longer have access to the
PST files.

You can try OST to PST converters - use a copy of the OST file for this to
preclude damage to the original. Unfortunately, these are not always
inexpensive. The ones I see seem to be starting around US$199 and go way,
way up.

Google "convert OST to PST". Note that there was an older version of
OST2PST that does *not* work with Outlook 2003.

Also note carefully limitations with demo versions of converters. erdemo,
for example, converts only three messages in the mailbox. and leaves the
others blank. The full version is around US$599.

If you can create a new blank OST file, you might try some renaming efforts
and swap in the old OST file. This might, or might not, allow you to open
the OST file and copy the contents into a new PST file.

Would suggest that you use new profiles for attempts like this, again to
protect your current mail.

Open outlook on the old and EXPORT his email to a PST. Then IMPORT on the
new PC in Outlook 2003.

Not an option (too late?) then you could Google for a way...
