If your new Acer has a 3.5 inch diskette drive then you can use the
Files and Settings Transfer Wizard that comes with XP.
Run the program on the Windows XP machine and choose the option to
create a Wizard disk for use on the other computer. When the disk is
created insert it into the Windows 98 machine and run the program on
the disk to collect and save your files and settings.
See the article on using the FASTW by MVP Gary Woodruff at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm for detailed information.
Note: If your new computer does not have a 3.5 diskette drive then
you have a couple of choices.
1. Purchase a USB memory stick (smaller ones are available for under
$20 if you shop around). Make sure it has drivers for use in Windows
98 and that your Windows 98 machine has a functioning USB port.
Insert the memory stick into the Windows XP machine. It will be
assigned a drive letter and then the FASTW will use it to create the
Wizard disk for the Windows 98 machine. Then insert the memory stick
into the USB port on Windows 98 machine, install the drivers, and run
the program from the memory stick.
2. Purchase a USB 3.5 diskette drive
Good luck
