Migrating 2002 pst file to 2003

I had problems making 2003 recognize my 2002 pst file. I now have three
folders- they are identical. They all show new mail, sent mail, etc. I can't
get rid of the extras. They is no way to close them.
Further, if I get rid of the default "favorites" they are back next launch.
2002 had a better layout.

Hi David,
to close your unused pst files,
go into the control panel > mail > datafiles > there you can delete you
unused pst files.
 
Hi Andreas,
The only file that is shown in the "datafiles" is the archive. My other
folders are not shown. This is most frustrating.

so please delete the old profile and create a new one!
 
Thank you for your reply. I have a feeling creating a new profile is not as
easy as it sounds. I note several people have had this problem. Sounds like
MS needs to fix something. Anyway, I shall try to create a new one this
weekend. I have a feeling I'll be back.

Just for future reference, you probably created the "ghost" .PST files if
you overwrote one .PST with another. There's never a need to do that --
just put .PST files wherever you want them on your hard drive and tell
Outlook where to find them.
