I have a laptop that comes set up with all kinds of corporate software on
XP. I want to set up a dual boot, copy the XP partition to the new
partition and then convert (upgrade/migrate??) the new partion so it runs
2000. The goal is of course to get most of the corporate stuff running on
2000 without a lot of hassle.

I know there will be compatability issues between 2K and XP.

I know you are not supposed to be doing this

I wan to do it anyway

Any ideas?

Have you received permission to alter your corporate computer
from your company? You may wish to read your employee
handbook before proceeding. Many companies have strict policies
regarding altering a company furnished computer.

Does he need to a ask your permission ? Does he need your advice on his
companies policies ? Did you get to be a MVP by asking personal questions ?
Do you wear a badge ? Do you know a proper answer to his question ? That
just about wraps that up . Jym

If you want to dual boot, you'll have to reinstall everything that you want
running on 2000, there's no way to "migrate" it, and no way to convert from
XP to 2000. Also, setting up a dual boot by installing the older OS second
may be a bit tricky. One more "also": depending on what sort of recovery
software came with the laptop (or if your company created a custom image) if
you ever need to reinstall XP, it may end up wiping everything out,
including whatever partitioning you've done.

There aren't going to be compatibily issues between 2000 and XP as they're
going to be on separate partitions and not interacting with each other. You
might have driver issues, though, if your laptop manufacturer hasn't created
2000 drivers for any of its components.

This is certainly going to be a challenge.
