Migrate user access to new installation

Hello all,

Had a problem with the OS drive; the data was saved on a
different drive. Reinstalled the whole works, but now
there is a problem of access. This computer is used by a
few different people and one of the data directories used
an explicit allow for the data access. After the install
we are unable to access some of the folders that had
specific "Allow/deny" entries. Tried re-creating the same
user names but this didn't help.

Is there a way to "re-open" these folders to allow the
data to be recovered?

Log on as the administrator and change permissions for yourself so that you can make
appropriate changes. If you can not change permissions as administrator, then you
need to take ownership of the folder/files. You will have to delete the users listed
and then readd them after creating their user accounts. The user names may be the
same, but to the computer they are different since the computer assigns a unique sid
to each user even if user accounts are created with same names. If the data was
encrypted with EFS, then you may not be able to access the files without the
associated EFS private key. ---Steve
