I have a server running w2k server it has been set up as just a file server with access allowed to everyone in the company. I would like to change that and take advantage of AD. What will happen when I use the AD wizard to set up the server as a PDC? The wizard says it will remove all local accounts, then what. Is there any articles that anyone could point me to, that would walk through a simmilar situation

Thanx

Brandon, an Domain Controller doesn't have a local account database.
Accounts are now stored within Active Directory.

How to Deploy Active Directory:

Chris gave you some good links.

You need to export or record manually all the important account
info from the server and then get it into AD after the upgrade.

As it says, the current server SAM (accounts database) is going to be
lost when it becomes a DC.

(Technically DCs running Win2000+ now have a sam but don't expect
any help there because it is only active in "Directory Services Restore
Mode" and is NOT useful for general purposes or normal network access.)
