Friends old pc gave up the ghost (power supply). So he asked me to get
him a new one. And I did.
Now, do I reload his apps & data, one by one, or as needed.
Or
Use Files & Migration wizard (sic?).
But his old computer is toast, and the 10 gig drive is OK.
Old W98 - new XP mce.
So moved the old drive to a directory on the new machine.
Now the wizard wants me to boot the old OS!

Now do I set up a dual boot for the F&M !!! And then completely erase
this so his life is simple.
And will the dual boot cope with the fact that new boot c is onto
RAID1 sata. (there was no issue when the old drive was on the ide, for
the copy. But boot?) Probably.
Or dual boot to the directory on new c - and un dualboot ?

And now I bet F&M doesn't do "windows"?
Or is there an better easier way?
tia.

Yeah, that is one downside of the F&SMW, the approach it takes on that.

You dont actually need to setup a dual boot, just boot from the
old 10G drive in the new PC and run the F&SMW, writing what it
produces onto that 10G drive if there is enough room for it there.
And then completely erase this so his life is simple.

No need to do that if you just boot from the old drive. Once you
have moved all the files and settings over to the new system,
you can and should just remove that drive from the system again.

c is onto RAID1 sata. (there was no issue when the

Yes, you should be able to boot the old 10G drive in that system fine.
Or dual boot to the directory on new c - and un dualboot ?

That wont work, you cant just copy W98 across and boot it.

Yes it does.

See above.

You dont even have to boot the 10G drive in that new system either, you can
boot it in any system you like, even one of yours if thats more convenient.

Good idea!
Put it in an old machine, booted in safe mode, and created the file.
thanks again
