I’ve been told that my hard drive is going to give out soon due to som
error messages. I figure when I have the hard drive replaced I woul
replace the processor and the video card (I was told that thes
determine the seed of the computer) What would be the latest of thes
to have a faster computer? My hard drive is 80 gig. Not sure of th
other two pieces of hard where.
The error messages I’m getting are:
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protect and that the file i
not currently in use. (this comes up when trying to delete files an
the file is close to my knowledge) How do I correct this?
Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk. What d
you do then?
The process can not access the file because it is being used b
another process. How do I find out what is using it?
Ckdisk, why would I get this sometimes and not other times? (fil
C,D,E)
D is NTF files

know what application to use?

The questions I had for the guy are underlined

First of all, this could be a software problem and not a hardware problem.
So don't run off to the computer store with a wad of cash just yet.

You should really tell us what file you were trying to delete. If
the file was something important to the OS, that would be the
reason you couldn't delete it. Sometimes, malware files are "busy" and
cannot be deleted by the AV software. A little more details
about what you were doing, would help.

With regard to your hard drive, you can get a diagnostic tool from the
company that made the hard drive. For example, my current
computer has a Seagate brand drive, and I have a floppy diskette here with
a copy of Seatools for DOS on it. I got that from the seagate.com
site. Other hard drive companies offer similar kinds of things. Be careful
with such a testing utility, because there may be at least one test
on the diagnostic, that can erase some of your files.

With regard to upgrading the other components on the computer,
on an older computer that can be harder to do. For example,
they might not be making processors any more, that are
compatible with your motherboard socket. Video card connectors
have changed as well. If you need more advice, at least
give some details about the make and model numbers of the
stuff you currently own. And roughly how much money you
have to spend.

Before we can also suggest to change the processor and video card, you
should list out the details of your PC. Nowadays, the processors and
video cards tend to use a different socket / slot than the previous PC
"generation."

Please note that some motherboards are limited to which processor you
can install onto even-though the socket is compatible with the select
processor.

AGP video card slots are starting to disappear, if not gone already.

Also, older Intel socket 478 and the older AMD socket motherboards
are becoming "rarer."

Video card and processor upgrades are not the only way to increase the
speed of a PC. Adding more RAM memory can also help.

Also, if your hard drive is still working, you can "clone" it to a
larger hard drive, thus saving the time of re-installing everything on
the new drive.

Go to the website of your harddrive manufacturer
then get their diagnostic utility and run it.

If it says the drive is bad, then believe it.

OTOH: If it checks out ok you may very well have other problems
